If you were wondering how Mean Cat Loofah Company got it's name, you're not alone.

Mean Cat is a feral cat that has lived on our front porch longer than we have lived in our house. This big feral cat got his name because, well, he's mean.

We bought our home in the summer of 2022. Mean Cat was this huge elusive cat that we would see come and go like he owned the place. Our home is in a rural area that is inundated with feral cats and kittens. Every time a new cat would cross our property Mean Cat would come out of nowhere to let this stranger know they weren't welcome at his home. So. Many. Fights.

We were able to trap Mean Cat and have him neutered and fully vetted. Within the first 6 months after being neutered Mean Cat decided he just wouldn't leave our front porch. He sat on the patio furniture, basked in the sun, and took shelter from unfavorable weather. We tried coaxing him to allow us to pet him with all sorts of tasty treats. He was not going to be fooled by our treats again. The last time he fell for that he returned with a couple reproductive organs missing!

In September of 2024 a very sick little kitten waundered onto our porch. Amazingly, Mean Cat didn't chase her away. He actually allowed her to rub up against him to find a little comfort. After, I'm sure what looked like a circus, trying to catch this little cat we decided to drag out the live trap and get her some help. She was NOT happy and as tiny and as sick as she was this little kitty knew how to use her claws earning the name Clawdia. Clawdia needed several vet visits and a lot of medicine. There were times I was sure she wasn't going to make it. She rallied and got over the hump. She looked horrible but she got better! Soon Mean Cat and Clawdia began developing a cute relationship. Mean Cat also decided we weren't so bad either.

Mean Cat lets us not only pet him but he sits in our laps, purrs like a motorboat, and drools all over. He and Clawdia play and snuggle all day.

I can't help but think of how hard Mean Cats life must have been. He's covered in battle scars, he's missing most of his teeth and 2 of his 4 fangs are broken off. He spent so many years alone, not trusting humans, and disliking the company of other cats. Now he has his tribe. He loves Clawdia and she loves him. He loves my husband and myself and we love him so much we named our company after him.

We have trapped, spayed/neutered, and released several feral cats since purchasing our little home in the country. I hope we are improving the lives of these animals and in the process saving a few lives.

Please spay/neuter your pets!
